What are the uses of Valium? Valium manages your anxiety disorder for the short term. Anxiety caused by everyday stress may not require drugs to treat it. Valium comes handy and useful for treating acute alcohol withdrawal, symptomatic relief of acute agitation, tremor, impending or acute delirium tremens, and hallucinosis. Valium is an effective medication aid to treat skeletal muscle spasm due to reflex spasms, such as inflammation of the muscles or joints, trauma, spasticity due to disorder in the upper motor neuron, such as cerebral palsy and paraplegia, athetosis, and stiff-man syndrome. Apart from Valium relieving the symptoms of anxiety and alcohol withdrawal, this medication may also be used to treat certain seizure disorders. It is also used to help relax muscles or relieve muscle spasm.
Valium dosage for sleep. Valium has its not medical use too, in the form of getting high, euphoric or to get sleep. For sleep problems due to or caused by severe anxiety, you may administer Valium 5mg to 15mg, once in a day at bedtime. Valium dosage and administration The dosages should be adjusted to maximize the benefits of Valium 10mg. Some require lower and some require higher Valium dosage. An increase in the Valium dosage should be monitored cautiously to avoid severe side effects. • For adults, to manage anxiety disorders and relief from symptoms of anxiety you need to administer somewhere between 2mg to 10mg 2 to 4 times a day depending upon the severity. • For Symptomatic relief in acute alcohol withdrawal in adults, you may administer Valium 10mg, 3 to 4 times in the first 24 hours. Adjunctively for Relief of Skeletal Muscle Spasm in adults, you need to administer Valium 2mg to 10mg, as prescribed, 3 to 4 times daily. • Adjunctively in Convulsive Disorders in adults, you need to administer Valium 2mg to 10mg, 2 to 4 times daily or as prescribed. • Those who are in the presence of debilitating disease or Geriatric Patients, need to be administered Valium 2mg to 2.5mg, 1 to 2 times daily initially thereafter increase as needed and tolerated or as prescribed.
Diazepam dosage for muscle spasms • To treat muscle spasms in adults, you may administer Valium 2mg to 15mg, in a day. Valium can be administered as 1mg twice a day. This may be increased to 5mg thrice a day. This may go up to a maximum 20mg 3 times a day if needed or as prescribed. • To treat muscle spasm in children, 1 month to 17 years, you may administer Valium depending on age. It is usually given twice a day, with an interval of 10 to 12 hours between each dose.
Drug Abuse and Dependence Diazepam is a Schedule IV control substance under the Controlled Substances Act of 1970. Abuse and dependence of benzodiazepines are at large. People who have a history of abuse substances or alcohol should be monitored closely when receiving diazepam or any other psychotropic drug since such patients are more prone to habituation and dependence.
