  1. Choosing the Right Commercial Door Closers For Your Facility Moving in and out of commercial facilities, you will have noticed that at some places the doors open with a unique smoothness and at some the door just springs open or rushes to close, behind your back. The former doors have a mechanism installed in them called the commercial door closers. Door closers were invented in the 1800s. But, over the period of so many years the functional aspect of the door has come to include a very important aspect that is related to security of the inhabitants of the building as well as the assets of the place. There are different types of door closers that are used in modern- day commercial facilities. Traditional type, modern type with cover, modern type without cover, concealed in door, concealed in frame and concealed in floor are all different types of door closers in commercial spaces. Choosing the right commercial door hardware is a crucial task because the door is an important aspect in controlling the security and mobility in the place. Uses of commercial door closers 1. They help keep the internal entities in the environment safe and secure. 2. They also restrict movement of external environmental factors inside. What factors to consider when choosing door closers for a commercial space? a. The first thing to consider is the position or where the door is located. The position of the door is dependent on the traffic that passes through the door. Since door closers are graded from 1 to 6 with the lowest grade having the lowest spring power and the highest grade denoting highest

  2. spring power, you need to choose a grade 1 door closer, for a high traffic area and vice versa. This way the commercial door closer grade should be 1 for commercial facilities like shopping malls, hospitals, colleges and other such places that have higher footfall. b. The door weight and width of the door are also key considerations when choosing a door closer. Wider and heavier doors need more powerful door closers compared to doors that are lighter and narrower. c. While buying a door closer it is essential to keep in mind that the grade 1 and 2 door closers are equipped with a backcheck feature. This characteristic enables the closer to resist the door to be thrown open. Hence, places where it is important to restrict movement – be it people or natural factors like wind – it is important to have closers with the backcheck feature. d. The mounting feature is another important aspect that needs to be considered when choosing commercial door hardware. While the surface-mounted door closers are the most commonly used ones, you would need to compare the pros and cons of the regular, parallel and the top jamb type door closers vis-à-vis the specific requirement of the door for the best choice. And, finally it is important to ensure that the door closer that you select is compliant with the fire and other statutory laws of the place. So, choose only UL marked doors in the US because it meets the legal compliances of the country. Source: https://www.klusster.com/portfolios/elina-white/contents/25068
