  1. Acoustic Tuningof an Anechoic Room Dr Jaroslaw Blaszczak Jaroslaw.Blaszczak@p.lodz.pl Institute of Turbomachinery/Technical University of Lodz

  2. Learning outcomes • Enhance knowledge of EU law on environment • Raise the level of knowledge in acoustics • Develop an understanding of the correlation between flow and noise and methods of the noise reduction

  3. Project description - Intro • More than 80 million of the EU citizens are exposed to the noise levels that scientists and health experts consider to be unacceptable • Additional 170 million Europeans are seriously annoyed by the noise in their residential areas, especially during the daytime • Through the years noise issue had lesser significance than air or water pollution. Now it is regarded as a serious health hazard, not just a nuisance

  4. Aeroacoustic chamberInstitute of Turbomachinery,TU Lodz

  5. Rockfon Topaz sound absorption coefficient in accordance with PN-83/B-02155 (ISO 354)Noise Reduction Coefficient (NRC) in accordance with American Standard ASTM C423

  6. Cross-sections with the limiting outlines ofthe aeroacoustic chamber

  7. Ambient noise level inside aeroacoustic chamber at he Institute of Turbomachinery TU Lodz compared to NASA Langley chambers

  8. Directivity measurement results and comparison with the inverse square law

  9. Project description - Goals • The first task of the project is to check the acoustic characteristics of the existing anechoic room • The project will be realised basing on experimental tests performed at the unique aerodynamic anechoic room at the Institute of Turbomachinery with high-end measuring equipment • The main task will be anechoic room tuning by improvement of its acoustic characteristics • Calculations of costs of the proposed method and some other benefits are also to be considered.
