  3. Deployment • Laptop • Works as an installation • Android • Demonstrates the potential of mobile phones • iPhone • When possible • Flash • Deploying over the internet allows people to experience Magic Cards at home

  4. Technical Capabilities: The Trigger • Logo Recognition • As long as the name card is in the field of view, some graphical effect will take place • Logo Tracking • Another graphical effect will be able to follow the namecards, enhancing its appearance and perhaps even replacing it entirely.

  5. Technical Capabilities: 2D Graphics • Effects • Graphics can appear come out of name card, can exit screen back into name card and can be drawn character at a time • Implementation • PC : Flash with transparent background • Mobile : scripted programming This text can describe the person, the product or the company. It will appear with some animation an can be tracked, if necessary to the logo on the card.

  6. Technical Capabilities: 2D • Of course we can track to the card also… We can show any 2D graphics experience, triggered by this card.

  7. Technical Capabilities: Video • Tracking and covering up the namecard • Video can be rotated in 3D giving a better effect that powerpoint can show

  8. Technical Capabilities: 3D Graphics • Typical AR brochure-ware We can show any 3D graphics experience, triggered by this card.

  9. i-POP Demo • Structure • Script • Contents

  10. Structure • 3 sequences are played in order. They are independent of each other. • If tracking is interrupted then demo ends with when sequence ends • When tracking resumes within X seconds of end of sequence then it can be restarted at the beginning of the next sequence.

  11. Tracking interruptions don't stop flow On off On off On off On 1 2 3 1 2 1 Seq # Y < X Y > X Last sequence time

  12. Master Script • Multiple records of • Max seconds of no tracking if sequence is to restart here • Script type • Text/graphics • Video • Script file name

  13. Text/Graphics Script Type • Objective • Use character generator for tracking and non tracking cases • How • Non tracking – coords are screen coords • Tracking – coords are relative to texture on 3D model, included in scene by reference

  14. Details • Multiple records of: • Type // 0 text, 1 image • Track marker // 0 no, 1 yes • Time to start // from start of sequence • Window X // texture or window coords • Window Y • Window Width, • Window Height • Font information // Per Adidas • Text String | image name • Draw speed // chars to reveal per second • Texture / Model reference to render text into

  15. Video Script Type • One file • Video name • Texture / Model reference to render video into • Speed • Model position if tracking fails

  16. 3D Script Type • Simple file • X file to play • Is all?

  17. Contents • 2D • See over • Video • Use ian’s face for now • 3D • To come – can prove with Adidas animation now?

  18. 2D Sequence This text can describe the person, the product or the company. It will appear with some animation an can be tracked, if necessary to the logo on the card.

  19. Video Sequence

  20. 3D Sequence • Arrival • Pure 3D entrance animation • Jump into phone • 3D to 2D • Play inside phone • Programmed 2D animation with momentum • Exit • 2D to 3D • 3D exit animation • Others • Idea not finished yet.

  21. 3D Sequence: Starting – 3D Arrival • Detection event starts first logos sequence. • Logo animation plays in 3D position based on 3d tracking

  22. 3D Sequence: “Collect the logo” It moves into the phone • Move from that 3D position to a 2D position inside the camera frame • Blend position from 100% 3D to 100% 2D • When get to 100% 2D stop 3D player

  23. 3D Sequence: 2D program animation takes over • Logo bounces around screen • Perhaps with animated spin? • Physics engine gives logos momentum. • Accelerometer allows user to play with logos.

  24. Exiting • Press button or shake camera to make them zoom out and away. • Press a button or allow detection event to start next logos sequence.

  25. Others • Maybe logos don’t exit – but accumulate and bounce around inside the phone?
