  1. BIONICS The making of Cyberman

  2. BIONICS • Hardware or machine parts implanted in the human body and acting as an interface between our central nervous system and the computer or machinery connected to it . • We can approach this field in two different angles which are INTERFACES and PROSTHETICS.

  3. NEURON & CNS • A neuron has 3 main parts which are Soma , Dendrites , Axon • The CNS has 3 parts Periphery , Spinal chord , Brain NEURON

  4. INTERFACES • Devices to study brain signals • The interfaces developed so far are : 1. Visual keyboard 2. Biomuse • FUTURE : Transmission of information by human contact (Personal Area Network -- PAN )

  5. PROSTHETICS • Goal : To connect any mechanical part to human brain and have it function as a normal organ • Bionic Limbs • Bionic ears • Bionic eyes • Bionic senses • Bionic organs and Bionic tissue

  6. BIONIC LIMBS • Socket : Electrodes • Pressure sensors • Advantages • Implemented at research hospitals at JHMI and MIT

  7. BIONIC EARS OrCOCHLEAR IMPLANTS • Working of the human ear • Cochlear Implant • Disadvantages and Advantages • Future : Tune to different radio stations

  8. BIONIC EYES • Working of a human eye • Bionic eye • Advantages and Disadvantages • Future : Supervision , Zoom , action replay , Store

  9. FUTURE PROSTHETICS • Bionic Senses : Attempts to recreate the sensation of touch (sensation of pain , vibration , pressure and temperature) • Bionic Organs : Bionic heart , Bionic lungs , Bionic air filters • Bionic Tissue

  10. PROBLEMS FACED • Sensory organs are simple but the entire sensory SYSTEMS are complex • Pattern matching of the brain is complex • Each person’s brain is unique • Biocompatibility problem

  11. FUTURONICS • MILITARY : Augmented soldiers • Entertainment • Education • Very soon video conferencing will be a passe because with this technology you can actually “be there” as far as your brain is concerned • Future generations may have the choice to opt either a bionic body member or a human one

  12. BIBLIOGRAPHY • Introduction to neural networks ---Freeman & Skapura • www.jhmi.edu • www.cyberpunks.org • www.msu.edu • www.india.discovery.com
