    1. Power of Forgiveness (Matthew 18:21-35)

    2. Power of Forgiveness Then Peter came and said to Him, “Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me and I forgive him? Up to seven times?” Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.” Matthew 18:21-22

    3. Power of Forgiveness I. Things I’ve learned about forgiveness Forgiveness isn’t always fair Forgiveness isn’t easy Forgiveness has little to do with how deserving the person is or whether they have asked to be forgiven Forgiveness is an act of faith

    4. Power of Forgiveness I. Things I’ve learned about forgiveness Forgiveness is a choice Forgiveness is taking the initiative to break the cycle of blame and retribution Forgiveness releases healing grace Forgiveness is primarily for me “When you forgive you set a prisoner free and later realize you were the prisoner set free.”

    5. Power of Forgiveness II. The affects of unforgiveness Unforgiveness imprisons us in the past and destroys the possibility of change Self inflicted re-injury Bitterness Repeated conflict To protect our emotions we build walls and wear masks Emotional stress

    6. Power of Forgiveness III. How to forgive Choose to forgive the person specifically (Colossians 3:13) Ask God to forgive them (Luke 23:34, Acts 7:60) Confess your unforgiveness (I John 1:9)

    7. Power of Forgiveness III. How to forgive Ask God to heal or defuse the power of the old memories and empty out stored emotion (Philippians 3:13) Trust God to redeem the failure and pain of the past and move on with thanksgiving and hope (Philippians 3:13-14, Romans 8:28)
