The businesses you work with all have customers • The carrier’s customer is a broker or a shipper • The brokers customer is the shipper • which for example could either be the person sending the product after it is manufactured or it could be that same manufacturer getting the raw materials to make those products. So you may be working directly with the shipper or the receiver, or neither! • Keep in mind though that one party is often a large corporation, so generally the shipper that you are working with is sending something to someone bigger than them, and then that someone bigger than them has their customers too, which often are consumers

With customer service comes some business etiquette • Telephones • Announce your name when you pick up the phone • Be aware of your speaking volume & tone (smile) • Let them know if they are on speaker phone • Leave a quick voicemail if they don’t answer • give them your phone number at the beginning and end of your message • Email • Set up a signature

  4. Quality Customer Service • have really clear communication • follow up • solve problems – make their problems your problems (take weight off their shoulders whenever you can) • you are never too busy for any of your customers
