Foundation • Robert College, founded in Istanbul by Dr. Cyrus Hamlin and Mr. Christopher Rheinlander Robert in 1863, was the first American institution of higher learning outside the United States. • Boğaziçi University, the official successor to Robert College, was inaugurated on the same campus in 1971 as a Turkish state university.

MISSION STATEMENT The mission of Boğaziçi University is to generate knowledge at global scale, to expand the scientific horizons of Turkey and to educate individuals who will ensure the dominance of contemporary science and technology in the development of the society. To achieve this mission, Boğaziçi University accepts the scientific excellence at international level as a measure and aims to maintain its status as a leading research and education institution of international standing.

High Standarts ACCORDANCE WITH INTERNATIONAL STANDARDS… Examined by European University Association (EUA) in 1999, academic and administrative perfection of Boğaziçi University has been approved by EUA and many other international associations. ENGINEERING FACULTY THAT HAS BEEN PROVED TO BE IN WORLD STANDARDS... After ABET’s (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) evaluation on Boğaziçi University Engineering Faculty in 1997 and 2004, contents and the level of the programs in the faculty were shown to be equivalent to the universities in USA and all departments were found to be in accordance with ABET standards.

  12. CAMPUS RESOURCES AND SERVICES • University Library started with 200 law books donated by the Harvard Law School in 1863. The present building holds a total of 320,000 volumes in English, Turkish, French, German and other languages, which makes it one of the largest collections in the country. • Computer Center: Its main task is to run a smoothly functioning campus network for 24 hours every day, providing access to computational services and to world wide academic communications through internet. • Superdorm : 130 appartments with kitchen and bathrooms and private rooms for each student.
