Li • Do the right thing. • Do the appropriate thing. • Act with regard to the circumstances or expectations. • Act with propriety. • Maintain self control which is a sign of strength and practicality.
Shu • Shu is translated as reciprocity. It is much liked the Golden rule with a difference and is called the “Silver Rule.” It states: “Do not do to others what you would not wish done to yourself.”
Xiao (hsiao) • Xiao (hsiao) - the devotion of the son or daughter to the parent • remembrance of ancestors • respect for parents and elders • care for children in family’ • care for family members • protecting the family name • carry on family line or tradition
Wen • Wen means culture and includes all of the arts which are associated with civilization: music, painting, calligraphy, etc. An individual was to have at least amateur ability in one of these.
Other Virtues • Loyalty • Self control • Consensus • Hard Work • Thrift • Sincerity
