  2. Why radio, television and the Internet are important … They keep us informed about the world … They entertain us.

  3. Career opportunities Radio – Board operator, disc jockey, news announcer, talk-show host, sports announcer, producer, programmer, engineer, sales. Television: Local news – Reporter, anchor, videographer, video editor, producer, assignment editor, sports, weather.

  4. Television: Network (entertainment): Performer, production (video editing, graphics, etc.), writer, director. Video production (for training or sales): Videographer, video editor, writer, performer. Internet – Programmer, content producer (writer, videograper, video editor, audio producer).

  5. Convergence Radio, television, newspapers and the Internet are coming together – YouTube, Pandora Radio, Facebook, Hulu, DallasNews.com.

  6. Skills & qualities needed Writing – necessary in every form of mass communication (radio, TV, Internet, newspapers, etc.) Knowledge & interest in what’s going on in the world. Technical skills – videography, video editing, audio production, software ability.

  7. Skills & qualities, continued Performance skills: Ability to speak or perform in an intelligent and entertaining way. Ability to read a script and make it sound as if is not a script. Attractive appearance.

  8. How to get there? Become an interesting, educated person – have something to share. Develop writing, speaking, technical skills. Subjects that are especially important – English, journalism, speech, theatre, computer tech, political science, history. Get an internship -- make it happen.
