IELTS • The International English Language Testing System or IELTS is an international standardized English language proficiency test for non native English language speakers who want to work and study where English is used as a language of communication. • It is accepted by most academic institutions in UK, USA, Australia, Canada, Ireland and New Zealand and by various professional institutions across the world. • IELTS score is reported in Band score from 0 to 9 and it is valid for 2 years.

  3. IELTS Test Structure IELTS are of two types or two  modules. They are 1.General 2.Academic • Generalis intended for those who are planning to undertake non academic training, or to gain work experience or for immigration purposes. • Academicis intended for those who want to enroll in a university for higher studies or for practice. • And there is a special third one which is IELTS life skills, which is for those who need to prove English speaking and listening skills or for a family of a settled person visa.

  4. IELTS consists of four parts. They are • Listening • Reading • Writing • Speaking Listening and speaking are the same for both the tests, but the subject part of reading and writing section depends on which type or which module one is taking.

IELTS Paper-based and IELTS Computer-based test • IELTS paper based : Listening(answer), reading, writing part will take place through paper. • IELTS computer based: Listening, reading, writing part will take place through computer. • In both the cases candidate has to take the speaking part face to face. • The computer based test will provide results within 5-7 days whereas paper based test will take 13 days to publish the result. • The timing, structure and content for both paper based and computer based are the same.

The prices for both the computer based and paper based are the same but the price for IELTS exam in general can vary according to the location. • The Listening, Reading and Writing sections of all IELTS tests are completed on the same day, having no breaks in between them. The Speaking section, however, can be completed up to a week before or after the other tests. • The total test time is 2 hours and 45 minutes.

  7. IELTS in Dubai Registration • If applications are available, candidates can apply 1 week prior to the test date. • In Dubai there are 3 ways to do IELTS registration. They are through • Online, • In person, • Through third party or through courier. • Online registration is only available to those candidates who wish to take test centers in Dubai or Abu Dhabi.

  8. Acceptable documents for registration • Valid passport; or • UAE National Identity Card and a copy of the passport; or • UAE Labour Card issued by the Ministry of Labour and  a copy of a passport. Cancellation • For cancellation or transfer of exam date one should complete the Request for Refund of Test Date Transfer Form and submit to the IELTS Registrar at least 5 weeks prior to the IELTS test date they have booked.

  9. Conclusion • IELTS computer based test is preferred by most as it brings faster results and since 2016 when it was first introduced theIELTS training for test takers has grown wide. Computer based test offers candidates a wide range of test dates as the results of tests are faster. The easiness of exam between paper based and computer based depends only upon ones comfort.
