  1. AMC charges for Demat account About AMC charges for Demat account Types of Charges

  2. About AMC charges for Demat account • Brokerage companies and depository participants (DPs) levy Demat account maintenance charges (AMC) or folio maintenance fees in exchange for the services they provide. You should be aware that the Securities and Exchange Board of India has only granted permission to a limited number of banks and brokerages to keep your securities in an electronic format on behalf of the depositories. This has a cost that these DPs must pay. The least expensive AMC charges for demat accounts range from Rs 300 to Rs 900 and can be paid upfront or periodically. Sometimes AMC Demat fees are waived for the first year in an effort to entice new customers for DPs.

  3. Types of Charges • Opening charges Every single time a Demat account is started, DPs charge an opening fee. Although small, startup costs are usually waived as part of promotional incentives to help new investors get started. With some DPs, opening a Demat account is even feasible for free. Incentives for opening two-in-one or three-in-one accounts that combine trading, bank, and demat accounts may also be offered by brokers. Before Demat accounts became widely utilised, banks used to levy an opening fee of between Rs. 700 and Rs. 900. • Custodian or safety fee With the aid of this fee, a DP can manage and securely retain an investor's securities. These may be calculated either based on the number of securities you have in your account or on a monthly basis. These Demat costs actually range from Rs. 0.5 to Rs. 1 per ISIN (ISIN). If a one-time payment has already been made, fees for some ISINs won't be applied.

  4. Transaction fee Transaction fees are charged each time stocks maintained in a Demat account are bought or sold. DPs usually charge transaction fees on a monthly basis. These fees, however, could vary based on the possible nature of the transaction. Depending on their policy, brokers may charge a transaction fee for both debited and credited shares or just when a security is debited.
