Advantages & Disadvantages of the Kilimanjaro Routes Marangu Route
Introduction: The Marangu Routeis teasingly referred to as the “tourist route” or “Coca-Cola Route.” This route is called a “Tourist route” for two reasons. One reason is merely its popularity and the second reason is that the climb route is used frequently by the tourists. Advantages: I. It is the only climbing route that is known for using the same route up & down. It also contributes being the largest crowded climbing route on Kilimanjaro. This route is a comfortable walking path with a steady gradual slope until you reach the last camp. Thus giving the Marangu Route a reputation as an easy & comfortable ClimbingMount Kilimanjaro route. Disadvantages: I. This route is not an easy route after crossing the last camp. II. It is serious climb with very low success rates. Only quarter to a third of the climbers get successful of reaching the summit of Kilimanjaro after climbing through this route. III. Tourists and climbers who are first timers can’t be able to climb the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro, if they came unprepared to climb this mountain top. IV. Moreover, a five day climbing period will not allow any mountaineer for sufficient acclimatization. The seven day version gives you a very short day before your summit attempt that leaves plenty of time to recover, adapt and get ready. This route is not technically difficult. For climbers, it is only more tiring and involves many ups and downs including crossing a succession of valleys and ridges. This is the reason why it is one day longer than Marangu. As for scenery, this route is absolutely remarkable. You can get the chance to look at Shira plateau, the Lava tower, The Barranco wall etc. Disadvantages I. People who have never had any longer hikes in their lives cannot be able to make this climb. It will be extremely tiring and demanding for people who are unprepared for this hike. II. The second major disadvantage is that this route is known for its crowd and as a climber, any tourist must have to put up with crowds otherwise they will be left and stranded behind everyone. I. II. III. Lemosho Route Introduction: The Lemosho Route approaches Kilimanjaro from the west and then joins the Machame route. Thus whatever has been said about the Machame route is equally gets applied to the Lemosho route as well.
Advantages: I. II. This route is one of the newer routes in Mt. Kilimanjaro Climbers will be facing low traffic and less crowds until the route joins the Machame route. It is one of the most attractive routes in Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro and grants panoramic views on various sides of the mountain. This route is also known for its high summit success rates. Disadvantages: III. IV. The only disadvantage of this route is length. Climbers who are going for this route must be prepared to pay more because this route is much lengthier than other routes and the climbers have to pay more to the budget operators from their pocket to reach there. Rongai Route Introduction: It is the only route that known for approaching the Kilimanjaro from the north along the border between Kenya and Tanzania. It is considered as the most wild and quiet route. The northern side is also drier and less wooded that makes the Rongai Route ideal for the rainy season.
Advantages: I. This route fascinates with rough backwoods and unbelievable scenes. These northern slopes receive less rain and thus have better conditions for hiking. It is also the least populated route. II. Disadvantages: The major disadvantage of this route is that it doesn’t follow the principles of climbing high and sleeping low. Due to this reason, a seventh day for acclimatization is therefore strictly recommended. The Northern Circuit Introduction: This route is a fresh and longest route. This route is also beautiful and it will take nine days for anyone to reach the summit. Advantages In all the routes, this is the best route for acclimatization, so you have the best chance for reaching the top. This specific route is almost 360 degrees round the mountain, so you will have the new scenic beauty every day. It is a newest route to open and less number of people is aware of it and that means you have more chances of being the first to experience it.
Disadvantages The problem with this route is that it is lengthy like the Lemosho Route and that is the reason why it is going to cost you more. Umbwe Route Introduction: Believe it or not! This route is the most challenging route of the Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. It is the steepest route that you will ever have for acclimatization. Thus, for average climbers, there is a little opportunity and time for acclimatization. Go for this route, if you are an experienced high altitude climber. For a climber to gain experience, it will be fantastic, energizing, life-changing climb in the midst of knife-edge points, sheer drop canyons and the most amazing views. Such a climbing is only suitable for tough and experienced people. Normal people will just freak out. It is not recommended for first timers or even for people who are average rated climbers. Advantages: Umbwe Route is especially good for high altitude climbers and if you are one of them, then you have to climb there yourself. This route will suit those people who love to
accept and complete challenges. This route is very beautiful, scenery and quick. You will get there quickly and come back in six days. Disadvantages: This route is completely bad for acclimatization in case you are an average climber. Some tour operators don’t offer group excursion on this route because it is very difficult.
