  1. Blog4-SimpleLifeMobility The Advancement of Wheelchairs Basically, wheelchairs are a device used by people who do not have the ability or strength to walk. Out of all those wheelchairs available in the market, there is one wheelchair that is gaining popularity these days, which is the self-propelled wheelchair. It is also known as attendant propelled wheelchair. When the person using the wheelchair has the ability to move his upper limbs and has upper body strength and can use his strength to propel the wheels of the chair for transit is called self-propelled wheelchair. Here, the person does not require a caretaker or assistant for guidance and has the freedom of movement according to own will. Self-propelled wheelchairs are the most preferred mobility device by the disabled person may it be children an adult or an older person who has upper body strength as it provides them with a satisfaction of being independent and allows them to explore the environment and have personal time. Self-propelled wheelchairs improve general fitness and provide freedom and independence. It helps in providing a better quality of life and gives satisfaction to the user and helps them live an active life and makes them believe in themselves. It can be used by older individuals also or person who is suffering from long-term mobility problem and has the strength, ability and willingness to move on their own without someone’s help or supervision. While choosing the wheelchair one should consider their unique condition and requirement. Various factors like comfort, pricing and daily needs should be considered before making the decision as a lot of options are available. One should always choose a lightweight and quality product as they are easy to operate and can last a lifetime if maintained well.
