  2. Context • Population – 290,000 • 11-16 Students – 18,500 • 21 Secondary Schools: • 5 Academies approved or planned • 13 Specialist Extended Schools • 2 Special Schools

  3. Sandwell – 2 Years ago…. • Most deprived West Midlands borough • Household Incomes less than £25,000 • All 24 wards are in worst 40% in England • 11% of the population had never worked • 27% of workforce adults with no qualifications • 46% have qualifications lower than Level 2

  4. Sandwell now… • Most improved Metropolitan Authority • Rising residential population • Inward migration including young families • Housing renewal major investment • Town Centre regeneration underway

  6. BSF – Part of a wider investment • BSF • ECM: Primary Capital Programme • Health 2010 • Housing Market Renewal and Housing PFI • Regenco (URC) and Town Centre renewal • New Deal for Communities

  7. Scale of Schools Investment BSF and Academies: 3 Academy Schools open or in development: £80m BSF Wave 3 ( 6 Schools rebuilt or remodelled): £120m Wave 5 ( 10 Schools including 2 academies rebuilt or remodelled): £170m £370m ECM: Primary Capital Programme: Joined-up funding of £7m per annum?
