  2. Visiting Chicago: Hotels, Restaurants, Attractions Hotels If this is your first time for visiting The John Marshall Law School and the city of Chicago in general, your best option would probably be to choose a hotel close to the school. JMLS is located in the heart of downtown, which allows a stay at a nearby hotel to be close to many tourist attractions. If you have a little extra time besides visiting JMLS, there is a lot that can be experienced from staying in a hotel close by to the school. Literally around the corner from JMLS is the hustle and bustle of State street shopping and restaurants. A five minute walk east will bring you to Chicago’s famous Michigan avenue, with Grant Park, Museums and the lakefront just beyond. Hotels considered closest to JMLS would include: Palmer House Hilton www.hilton.com 17 E. 6. Resources for Housing Search Internet Resources Searching for housing in Chicago can be done effectively with just having access to the internet. Although it’s probably not a good idea to rent an apartment with out physically seeing the property first, there are many websites which can give you long lists of properties to choose to visit. Most of these lists offer searches based off of detailed search criteria. (i.e. rent range, neighborhood, amenities) The following are links to various search engines designed for listing available housing throughout the Chicago land area. www.chicagoreader.com www.chicagotribune.com www.chicagosuntimes.com www.chicago.craigslist.org www.apartmentzone.com Concerned about the crime and safety of a prospective neighborhood? Visit the Chicago Police Department’s website at: www.cityofchicago.org/caps A resourceful website for finding information regarding signing a lease, renter’s rights, landlord & neighbor complaints: www.chicagoareahousing.org Referral Services If you are having problems locating housing on your own, pressed for time or just feel more comfortable being shown different properties by a local Chicagoan, using an apartment finder firm may be what you need. Here is a list of apartment finder firms here in Chicago. REMEMBER: With many of these companies you need to schedule an appointment. They typically will take you to view different properties based on your preferences. In addition, many of these services are of no cost to you! Apartment Connection www.theaptconnection.com 1000 W.
