  3. Prediction… Pg. 60 Make a T-chart in your composition book: I predict____ will happenbecause… 1- 2- 3- 4- 5- 6- 7-

  4. Look at these words • Read over them and circle 5 words that stick out to you • Let’s make our first prediction: in your composition book, make your prediction about the MOOD of this poem

  5. galleon - a large ship

  6. cobbles - partially rounded rocks used for road paving

  7. ostler -person employed at an inn, hostelry, or stable

  8. rapier - slender, sharply pointed sword

  9. Make a connection between words Look at my example…. Your turn… Now, share with your partner.

  10. Mood… • What is your mood on this wonderful Monday? • Let’s read this and tell me the mood: The wind was a torrent of darkness among the gusty trees.    The moon was a ghostly galleon tossed upon cloudy seas.    The road was a ribbon of moonlight over the purple moor,   

  11. First Read: “The Highwayman” • We will read each stanza together • You will draw out to the side of each stanza what you see in your mind. • We will do the first one together, you will then make a prediction in your composition book

  12. 2nd Read: • You and your partner will read together, alternating each stanza. • As you read, stop after each stanza and write out to the left hand side what is going on in your own words. YOU MAY DISCUSS WITH YOUR PARTNER BEFORE YOU WRITE. • You will now discuss with your group what each stanza is really saying. Agree and write down ONE answer on the sticky note. • My runner needs to bring it to the chart when you are COMPLETELY finished.
