UK Traditional Dances. May pole dancing and Morris dancing. May pole dancing traditionally takes place on the 1 st of May. This year I took my family to visit the Maypole dancers. First of all we listened to a traditional brass band. Listen to the brass band!.

  1. UK Traditional Dances May pole dancing and Morris dancing.

  2. May pole dancing traditionally takes place on the 1st of May. • This year I took my family to visit the Maypole dancers.

  3. First of all we listened to a traditional brass band.

  4. Listen to the brass band!

  5. Look at how tall the May pole is.

  6. These are the ribbons that are used to dance with.

  7. The band plays music for the dancers. They use a violin a tambourine and two accordions.

  8. The children enter in pairs and collect their ribbons.

  9. The children dance holding the ribbons to make a pattern on the May Pole.

  10. They skip around the pole twisting the ribbons and weaving in and out of each other.

  11. Watch the children dance!

  12. Dancing with boughs of flowers is another traditional dance.

  13. Morris dancing is another traditional dance. This is where groups of dancers follow certain steps. These dancers are using wooden batons.

  14. Morris dancers wear bells around their legs.

  15. Sometimes they use huge handkerchiefs.

  16. It is always very energetic and a giggle!
