The Life and Death of Comet ISON彗星ISON的生与死 • In the November 2013 issue of the Discover magazine, there is an article entitled “The Life and Death of Comet ISON” by Corey Powell. Although I enjoy most of the article, Powell unknowingly projects his belief in the article. The subtitle of the article states, “Minute by minute, a rare comet is unraveling, exposing 4.56 billion years of cosmic history in the process.” Does he know 4.56 billion years? “The 4.56 billion years” is based on unverifiable assumptions. The Life and Death of Comet ISON彗星ISON的生与死 • Furthermore, all short period comets have lifetimes of about 10 thousand years, and all known long period comets have several times of 10 thousand years. Beyond that, next to nothing is known. Although the Kuiper Belt is verifiable, the Oort Cloud is not. The Oort Cloud was a hypothetical construct to satisfy the billion-year concept. It is not observable or verifiable. All careful reader should be aware of that. In fact, it has long been argued that the lifetimes of comet suggest young ages for the solar system. The Life and Death of Comet ISON彗星ISON的生与死 • Actually, there are many unanswered questions. For example, what propels the comet ISON to come to the Sun for a possible suicide mission? If the Oort Cloud is a large body of small objects, why only once a while, one of these bodies are triggered to come toward the Sun? Is there a body much bigger than the Sun to attract the Oort objects to come our way? If such a large Sun exists, then why does it not attract a lot of bodies to come our way? Some Things You Don’t Know About Hunger你不知道的饥饿事情 • In the November 2013 issue of the Discover magazine, there is an article on “20 Things You Don’t Know About Hunger” written by Tasha Eichenseher. Some of the facts are as follows:Eating beetles, wasps and worms, could alleviate world hunger. • Two billion people already rely on bugs for protein. One serving of caterpillar has more protein than a serving of beef. • Plane crash survivors of 1972 in the Andes practiced cannibalism to survive. • Hunger starts with some gas in the intestines. 11/9/2014 7

Some Things You Don’t Know About Hunger你不知道的饥饿事情 • Then you will burn fatty acids instead of glucose. Maybe that is a way to lose weight! • A few days into a fast, your body starts to feed on its own proteins. Your stomach may eat itself! • Without food intake, your body will not produce enough glucose for the brain. It resorts to using ketone, a fatty acid derivative. • The prime cause of death in people who are starving is heart failure. • About 1 billion people will go to bed hungry tonight. And 200 million of them are children! • Lack of vitamins and nutrients for a child will affect brain growth and intelligence. 11/9/2014 8

Some Things You Don’t Know About Hunger你不知道的饥饿事情 • Iron deficiency, because of malnutrition, may drive anemics to eat clay and soil. • About 30% of pregnant women crave nonfood items, an eating disorder called pica—eat anything! • Refined carbohydrates can make you feel hungrier by interfering with messages the digestive system sends to the brain. • Thinking about a favorite food triggers the release of dopamine—a feel-good hormone. • Thinking about chocolate would make us eat more. • Suppressing hunger or appetite is a multibillion-dollar industry in the United States. 11/9/2014 9

Some Things You Don’t Know About Hunger你不知道的饥饿事情 • People carrying the obesity gene FTO keep pumping out the hormone ghrelin, which tells the brain to eat more. • Some of the highest levels of ghrelin have been observed in anorexia (an eating disorder) patients. • In the early 1980s, 10 fasting Irish Republican and Irish National Liberation armies lasted 46 to 73 days before dying of starvation. • Studies in rodents show reducing daily calorie intake by 30% can lower risk for cancer and Alzheimer’s disease and increase longevity. • Thanks to Discover magazine for excellent reporting. 11/9/2014 10

Comet ISON Is No More, NASA Says彗星ISON没有了，美国航空航天局说 • The December 02, 2013 npr.org announced the above message by Mark Memmot. It further claims that the age of the comet ISON is 4.5 billion years. This is certainly not true. • On November 1, the speed was 95,000 mph. If this has been the speed, then in 4.5 billion years, it should have traveled over 22 million light years (ly). If the speed was 20,000 mph (which is close to the speed of the Space Shuttle), it would have traveled 4.7 million ly. But, the radius of the solar system is only about 0.0032 ly. It only took ISON 109.59 years to come here! • The diameter of the Milky Way is about 100,000 ly. In 4.5 billion years, the comet would have traveled 47 times the diameter of the Milky Way! • Therefore, a blind faith in the billion-year concept is deceptive. • Let us give all glory to God. 11/9/2014 13

One More Piece of Evidence for Noah’s Flood诺亚洪水多一个证据 • The October 2012 issue of National Geographic has an article on “Sky Caves of Nepal.” It describes the cliffside caves of Nepal. Nepal is on the other side of Mount Himalayas. What is amazing is the abundance of flood evidence. Virtually all Mount Himalayas was laid down in flood water. Layer after layer of sedimentary rocks. Also, there are tremendous amount of conglomerate rocks composed of cobblers to pebbles cemented together on overpasses. The scale of these conglomerates are unprecedented. These cobblers were carried through long distances and cemented by calcite agents on the mountain. • Hallelujah! We must witness the judgment with awe. 11/9/2014 16

Wolves Turn the Other Cheek 狼转另一面颊 • In the Nov/Dec issue of the Creation Matters, there is a delightful article entitled “Wolves Turn the Other Cheek: Spiritual Insight from Nature” by E. Norbert Smith, who is an expert on wolves. He described how a loser wolf would turn his cheek by turning upside down to expose the most vulnerable throat in a losing fight. The “submissive posture… inhibits further aggressive behavior from the attacking wolf and peace returns to the wolf community.” This is a great lesson for us to learn. Making a compliment to our enemy often turns him into a friend. This is a great lesson that Christ bestows upon those who is willing to learn. Praise be to God for such a lesson. 11/9/2014 19

A Mysterious Copper Bell Found in Coal 一个神秘的铜钟在煤中间发现 • The Nov/Dec 2013 issue of Creation Matters has an interesting article on “Update on the Mysterious Bell Found in Coal” written by Dave Woetzel. He reports Newton Anderson of Greenville, South Carolina, found such a copper bell in a chunk of black coal in Buckhannon, West Virginia in 1944. Not knowing the value of such a find, he cleaned and polished the bell. The bell is similar to a modern Garuda bell from the near east. 11/9/2014 22

A Mysterious Copper Bell Found in Coal 一个神秘的铜钟在煤中间发现 • No one in West Virginia had traveled to Iraq, Egypt, or India, prior to 1944. • Since the bell was encased in a solid chunk of black coal, it must have been an object of preflood origin. The coal was rapidly formed during the Noah’s flood. It is possible that the bell could be the work of those metal workers in Genesis 4:22. • Now the issue is whether coal could be formed rapidly. All they need is the right combination of temperature, pressure, wood, and maybe something else. This is a trade secret. No formula is forth coming. They likewise have produced man-made diamonds for industrial drills, because diamonds are the hardest substance. 11/9/2014 24

Nature’s Drone 大自然的无人机 • The Nov/Dec 2013 issue of Creation Matters has an interesting article on “Nature’s Drone” written by Jonathan C. O’Quinn. He described the dragonfly is indeed nature’s drone. The dragonfly actually exceeds the capability of the best man-made drone. The dragonfly can “fly in any direction, even upside-down, turn on a dime, and reach speeds of up to 30 miles/hour.” 11/9/2014 27

Nature’s Drone 大自然的无人机 • Their eyes are amazing: “each made up of roughly 30,000 facets and offering 360-degree vision that is among the sharpest of all insects. They are able to maintain the image of a moving prey insect on the same point of the retina, locking in on the target. Dragonflies have a 95% success rate in catching their prey, compared with 25% for African lions and 50% for great white sharks.” 11/9/2014 28

Nature’s Drone 大自然的无人机 • “Dragonflies have a kind of master circuit of 16 specialized neurons that connect the brain to the flight-motor center in the thorax operating the wings. It is as if the wings automatically determine how to function to bring the dragonfly to its target, once it has been selected. Due to the specialized vision, wings, and neuronal connections, a dragonfly can track a moving target, calculate a trajectory to intercept that target, and quickly adjust its path as needed—all without having to stop and think about what it is doing! Rather than evolving in a stepwise fashion, these specialized abilities had to act in concert from the dragonfly’s first appearance, assuring the survival of these uniquely designed insects.” What a wonder in God’s design. 11/9/2014 29

The Bite That Heals 咬伤的医治 • The February 2013 issue of National Geographic has an interesting article on “The Bite That Heals: Scientists Are Unlocking the Medical Potential of Venom.” It says there are about 100,000 venomous animals and an estimated 20 million toxins. So far, only about 10,000 venomous animals known and only 1,000 have been studied in depth. Therefore, there is a tremendous untapped potential. “A single animal’s venom can contain hundreds of different toxins that immobilize, harm, or kill. Because the toxins target body functions selectively, they are ideal for developing drugs.” Only 1% has been studied. 11/9/2014 32

The Bite That Heals 咬伤的医治 • So far, about 15 diagnostic kits have been developed using snake venom toxins which act on the molecules that control blood clotting and muscle contraction. Another 20 medicines were produced. These medicines treat pain, diabetes, and some cardiovascular diseases. These toxins mostly came from snakes. And one cosmetic was made using the temple pit viper. This is a snake’s answer to Botox. It is a wrinkle treatment. Therefore, the promise to provide cure is great. So, even toxins can be made useful if done correctly. That is how wonderful God’s creation is. 11/9/2014 33

The Bite That Heals 咬伤的医治 • In spite of the value of the article, it also provides some indoctrination on evolution. It says, “Although evolution has been fine-tuning these compounds for more than a hundred million years, venom’s molecular architecture has been in place much longer.” How did the writer know that? It is 100% speculation. Further it says, “Nature repurposes key molecules from around the body to serve animals for predation or protection.” Nature is not a person. It is better to say that “God repurposes key molecules.” There is no known mechanism that can do this. It is a faith and a belief system. Let us give all glory to God. 11/9/2014 34

The Asteroid Belt—A Computer Simulation 小行星带的计算机仿真研究 • The Vol. 50 Fall 2013 No. 2 issue of the Creation Research Society has an interesting article written by R.F. Mathis. The abstract reads “This initial study uses computer simulation to explore the possibility that the asteroid belt observed today resulted from the breakup of a dwarf planet a few thousand years ago. It is assumed that a catastrophic event occurred, and a computer model of the resulting fragmented dwarf planet is developed. The simulation has two parts. First a model of a planet collision is used to provide a starting point. The output file contains the position, velocity, and size of each of more than 16,000 fragments representing an exploded dwarf planet. 11/9/2014 37

The Asteroid Belt—A Computer Simulation 小行星带的计算机仿真研究 • “In the second part of the simulation, each of the fragments is tracked as it propagates under gravitational influence of the other fragments, the Sun and the planet Jupiter. In this initial study, collisions are not included. The simulation is run out to 15.75 orbit periods of the original dwarf planet or nearly 82 years in 120-second steps. It is shown that a surprising uniformity of the fragments forms around the entire orbit in this short period of time.” • What matters is the agreement of the simulated asteroid size distribution with the real published data, meaning that such a simulation is acceptable to the best of our measurements. 11/9/2014 38

The Asteroid Belt—A Computer Simulation 小行星带的计算机仿真研究 • Of course, the simulation could include collisions. This will be a small contribution to the time of formation. The fragments are assumed to be 100 km apart, making collisions unlikely. Collisions could increase the time of formation of the Belt by a factor of 2, which is 160 years. • Furthermore, if the time step is reduced to 60-seconds, then the time of formation could again be doubled, meaning that it might be 320 years for the formation of the Asteroid Belt. All these years are far less than millions of years for the Asteroid Belt. • Thank God for this great piece of research. 11/9/2014 39

A Clockwork Insect钟表机构的昆虫 • The Dec/Jan 2014 issue of Popular Mechanics has an interesting article “A Clockwork Insect” written by William Herkewitz. It describes an insect called the Issus nymph which is equipped with a mechanical gear, a spinal seatbelt, and composite springs. It is literally a jumping robot. The two gears keep the insect’s “bulleting legs” in sync during takeoff. The seatbelt keeps the brain and nerve cord from liquefying during the sudden acceleration of a jump. The composite springs flick its legs open to achieve its split-second acceleration. What a wonderful insect it is. Praise be unto God. 11/9/2014 42

Some Facts About Neanderthals 关于尼安德特人的一些事实 • The December 2013 issue of Discover magazine has an article on “20 Things You Didn’t Know About Neanderthals.” Some of these facts are listed below: • You have some Neanderthal genes • These genes help to fight off some nasty viruses • Chromosome 10 contains some of Neanderthal’s genes • It is possible to clone a Neanderthal because we know all his DNA genome • The first Neanderthal was found in 1856 by miners • In 1970s, creationists publicized that Neanderthals were humans with acromegaly or arthritis • Between 1909 and 1911, Marcellin Boule constructed the first skeleton of a Neanderthal, which happened to be arthritic 11/9/2014 45

Origin of Homochirality 同手性起源 • The Vol. 50 Fall 2013 No. 2 issue of the Creation Research Society has an interesting article written by Peter M. Murphy. The abstract reads “Origin of Life (OoL) research has produced an amazing amount of scientific experimentation, but no consensus has emerged on any viable naturalistic path from chemical compounds to living, reproducing cells. One example of the accomplishments, optimism, and then futility of OoL research is the search for a prebiotic, naturalistic origin of homochirality in a-amino acids and polypeptides. 11/9/2014 49

Origin of Homochirality 同手性起源 “This review surveys the current research on the significance of homochirality in proteins, the rivalries with OoL research, the abiotic sources of a-amino acids and polypeptides, their chiral amplification, their prebiotic stability, and the difficulty of finding a naturalistic explanation for the origin of homochirality.” It is amazing after all these years of hard work, the origin of left-handed amino acids is still unknown. Amino acids made are 50/50 D/L mixtures. It is very difficult to separate the two because of identical chemical properties. 11/9/2014 50
