Faculty Grievance Office: Scope To respond to inquires from MSU faculty, academic staff, and administrators concerning alleged violations of MSU policies and practices. A faculty or academic staff member may file a formal grievance against an administrator that alleges a violation of University, college, department, school, or unit policy or established practice. Article III - FGP
Faculty Grievance Office: Approach Goals of the FGO • Resolve disputes informally • Provide a fair internal process for resolving employment related disputes arising between faculty or academic staff and administrators • Schedules and conducts formal grievance hearings when necessary following established guidelines
Faculty Grievance Office: Structure • Consults with University General Counsel and Provost Office on matters • Works with University Committee on Faculty Affairs to establish policy, practice and annual evaluation • Works with UCFA to resolve disputes and to review and recommend changes in MSU Human Resource policies
Faculty Grievance Office: Examples • Annual performance evaluations • Workload issues • Minor and Major Disciplinary actions • Tenure/promotion policy concerns • Unit / college bylaws and policies or practices • Employment termination
Faculty Grievance Procedure The FGO does not address: • Allegations of Misconduct in Research and Creative Activities • Anti-Discrimination Policy • Relationship Violence and Sexual Misconduct

Faculty Grievance Office: Procedure When received, grievance is forward to the named respondent (administrator) with all documents within 3 days of receipt. Response to grievance within seven days of the initial jurisdictional decision.
