The IBO Mission Statement The International Baccalaureate Organization aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end the IBO works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment. These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

  5. IB is International • Started in Europe in 1968 by international schools • It has grown to 2100 schools in 125 countries • 500,000 +IB students worldwide • 83 Canadian schools • 39 Ontario schools

IB is Baccalaureate • A rigorous pre-university diploma designed to give admission to the most prestigious universities • IB Diploma courses taken in the last two years of high school • A liberal arts curriculum incorporating humanities, mathematics, and sciences • Designed for the highly motivated student seeking educational challenges

Diploma Requirements • One course from each of 6 subject groups • IB exam in all 6 courses • 3 Higher Level(240 hours) 3 Standard Level(150 hours) • Complete Extended Essay, TOK, and CAS • Accumulate 24 points total on 6 exams - Exams are scored on a scale of 1 - 7 International Baccalaureate Diploma

EE, TOK, and CAS Extended Essay (EE)Independent and original research of approx. 4,000 words (+2 points) Theory of Knowledge (TOK)Interdisciplinary course designed to stimulate critical thinking (+1 points) Creativity, Action & Service (CAS) 150 hours of documented extra-curricular activities C= drama, music, A= sports and S=volunteering

Why LATIN ?? • Latin improves your English spelling, grammar, vocabulary, and writing skills • Latin improves your understanding of French or Spanish • Latin improves your understanding of History or Geography • Latin provides insights into cultural beliefs and traditions • Latin enhances creative and logical thinking • Learn terms used in Law, Science, and Medicine • Latin is a fun course taught by a fun teacher • You’ll get great grades if you are organized and have good study habits, which will also make you successful in IB

Duke of Edinburgh Award • The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Young Canadians Challenge is an exciting self-development Programme available to all young people, equipping them with life skills to make a difference to themselves, their communities and their country. • It is really just documenting what your already doing, and you might get to meet a Prince at the end of it.

  20. SERVICE The emphasis of this Section is the regular giving of a service. ADVENTUROUS JOURNEY An enjoyable experience designed to cultivate a spirit of adventure and discovery; an understanding of the environment, and the importance of working together in a team with a common purpose. SKILLS To encourage the development of personal interests and learn practical skills PHYSICAL RECREATION To encourage improved performance and physical fitness Duke of Edinburgh Award

  21. Are you in ? • Space is limited (≈60 two classes) • Bus transportation is not guaranteed • Fees $1600 ($400 per year) • Space at KCVI is not guaranteed if you drop out of LJBP or IB
