Locate the TRACS site. • If you are a junior or senior, it should appear as a tab in your TRACS labeled “CJ Intern Apply 2013.” You may have to click “active sites” tab to see it. • If it is not there, contact your advisor in Hines 108. • Determine eligibility. • Look at the list of Pre-requisites in the on the CJ Department website Application Steps

  3. 3. Download the required forms: Internship Application with waiver Agency Approval Form • Forms are posted under the Assignments tab of “CJ Intern Apply 2013” TRACSsite Step 3

  4. Registration. You cannot add the class until your Application and all forms are submittedand approved. • Go to the Assignments tab in TRACS. Find the Application. Complete it as an Assignment and submit it in TRACS. • Applications are graded pass/fail. “Fail” means that you need to provide additional information and re-submit your application. Step 4

You also need to turn in your signed Agency Approval Form before the deadlines listed on TRACS. • When all forms are submitted correctly, you will be cleared to register for the internship course. • Internship sections do not fill up, however, no one is permitted to add to the course after the semester begins.   6. It is up to each student to find a placement, there is a list of agencies that take interns on the CJ website. Check the Internship bulletin board outside Hines 120 for postings about agencies in need of an intern. • The agency list is not exclusive list; many public or private agencies in the criminal justice system may be appropriate. • Some internships are competitive, so apply 2-3 places. Contact the agency early to find out about its application process and deadlines. Step 5 - Find an Agency

For federal agencies, you should contact them at least 9 months in advance of the semester when you want to do the internship. • For local agencies, you should contact them at least 2 months in advance. It is your responsibility to comply with all agency requirements, such as a drug test or background check. Federal Agencies
