Background information • Membership: national associations related to asbestos (removal), individual companies (related …) • Activities of EARA so far: - inventarisation of national standards - Code of Practice - meetings (circulating locations) - seminars / conferences (Duisburg (G), Baarn (NL)

  3. Relevant developments • implementation new European legislation • includes mutual recognition by EU-Members of each others regulations and standards • consequences: - potential threat to highest protection levels by lowest - potential threat therefore to fair competition - need for hamonisation - opportunities fo national associations / companies and for EARA

  4. Plans for the future • Continuing inventarisation different national regulations • To start with: a uniform, European definition (what are we talking about; see TNO-research in Netherlands, differentiating requirements between various kinds of asbestos (white, blue, brown) • Possibilities to join forces on education, know-how and standardisation?

  5. Current Dutch situationon asbestos removal • Legislation (labour/health/safe working conditions and environment) • Certification (>400 companies certified, >10 certifying bodies, training&education) • BRL-5050 asbestos removal • BRL-5052 asbestos inventarisation • RvA-accreditation of asbestos laboratories • DTA-A personnel certification • Asbestos worker personnel certification

  6. Desired European situation • What models are there and which one do we all want? • Work enough for EARA!
