Alliance for Progress-a massive economic aid program for Latin America But more often than not KFK preferred to use special ops like the Green Beret to beat back Communism

  11. ALLIANCE FOR PROGRESS “THEREFORE I HAVE CALLED ON ALL PEOPLE OF THE HEMISPHERE TO JOIN IN A NEW ALLIANCE FOR PROGRESS -- ALIANZA PARA PROGRESO -- A VAST COOPERATIVE EFFORT, UNPARALLELED IN MAGNITUDE AND NOBILITY OF PURPOSE TO SATISFY THE BASIC NEEDS OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE FOR HOMES, WORK AND LAND, HEALTH AND SCHOOLS - TECHO, TRABAJO Y TIERRA, SALUD Y ESCUELA.” JOHN F. JFK’s New Frontier • JFK’s inner circle of advisors were Camelot and JFK was viewed as “Lancelot” • Endeared by the public, Hollywood and the media • But Conservatives road-blocked JFK’s New Frontier domestic proposals • He did get tariff barriers and taxes lowered and along w/ space race and military spending –it stimulated the economy

  14. JOHN F. KENNEDY INHERITED A PLANNED INVASION OF CUBA FROM THE EISENHOWER ADMINISTRATION many referred to JFK as a sort of “Lancelot” because of his heroic qualities Break for video

  17. THE BAY OF PIGS INVASION WAS A FAILURE AND ALL THE CUBAN EXILE INVASION FORCE WAS EITHER KILLED OR CAPTURED BY CASTRO’S ARMY. THE SUCCESS OF THE INVASION DEPENDED ON AN ANTI-CASTRO UPRISING AMONGST THE CUBAN POPULATION-IT NEVER HAPPENED CASTRO’S FORCES ON THE MARCH CASTRO’S AIR FORCE DESTROYED THE INVADING SHIPS

  18. Vienna, June 1961 Khrushchev & JFK meet to discuss Berlin and nuclear proliferation. Khrushchev thinks that JFK is young, inexperienced, and can be taken advantage of, but JFK held his own.

  23. Cuban Missile Crisis (1962) • DECLASSIFIED 1962 MAP SHOWING THE DISTANCES NUCLEAR ARMED MISSILES WOULD GO IF FIRED FROM CUBA. • ALMOST ALL MAJOR US POPULATION CENTERS WERE WITHIN RANGE. • MAPS LIKE THIS CONVINCED JFK THAT THE SOVIET MISSILES MUST BE REMOVED FROM CUBA.

  24. Cuban Missile Crisis (1962) JFK HAD TWO CHOICES OF HOW TO DEAL WITH THE SITUATION IN CUBA: FIRST: HE COULD ORDER AIRSTRIKES ON THE MISSILE SITES IN CUBA AND RISK AN ALL OUT NUCLEAR WAR WITH THE USSR SECOND: HE COULD ORDER A NAVAL BLOCKADE QUARANTINE AND STOP SOVIET SHIPS FROM BRINGING IN MISSILES AND OTHER EQUIPMENT. NO ONE KNEW HOW THE RUSSIANS WOULD REACT TO THIS. HE CHOSE THE NAVAL BLOCKADE QUARANTINE

  29. But We have newer information lately • The USA promised to remove its Nuclear missiles in Turkey if the Russians removed the Cuban Missiles • Did the Missile Crisis as well as the numerous assassination attempts on Castro by the CIA influence Castro to order Kennedy assassinated? • Break for Video: Poisoned Dreams

  30. JFK Assassination theories • Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone • The Russians hired Oswald • Castro’s agents met w/ Oswald in Mexico City before the assassination and hired him to kill JFK • The CIA killed him • J. Edgar Hoover of the FBI had him killed • Cuban exiles had him killed after he failed to help at the Bay of Pigs

  31. JFK Assassination theories • The mafia killed him b/c his brother Bobby or RFK was cracking down on them • A mafia boss who was dating Marilyn Monroe had JFK killed b/c he was jealous • LBJ had him killed b/c he wanted to be president • The craziest one of them all is that JFK was killed b/c he was going to reveal to the world that the Bilderburger Group was really ruling the world
