  1. Million-Dollar ThrowMike Lupica2009Realistic Fiction Tyler B. 4th Period

  2. Setting This story takes place in the small, quiet town of Valley, Massachusetts. This setting is important and adds meaning to the story because it shows that people who come from small towns can still accomplish great things. If the setting was different, Nate would have lived in a bigger town with more competition and maybe not have been a quarterback. This would have caused him to not sign up for the million-dollar throw.

  3. Characters

  4. Conflict The main conflict in the Million-Dollar Throw is that Nate and Abby’s families need money and Abby is going blind. For their families needing money, it is a Man vs. Society conflict. For Abby going blind, it is a Man vs. Self conflict.

  5. Summary of Plot An average kid named Nate, who is a quarterback, gets picked for a million-dollar throw. His best friend Abby is going blind and needs surgery so she can see. When it seems like nothing can get worse, Nate and Abby’s dads both lose their jobs. Both families need money to keep their homes.

  6. Theme The theme for the book is never give up on anything that you do or try. Three supporting pieces of evidence are: • Abby was always encouraging Nate that he would make the million-dollar throw • Even though Nate’s arm was failing him, he did not give up • Nate’s mother was always believing in him

  7. Point of View The point of view in the Million-Dollar Throw is third person omniscient. This point of view helps the reader understand all of the thoughts of the characters. If there was another point of view like first person, Nate would be narrating his own story using I or me.

  8. Symbolism The million-dollar throw symbolizes stress. This affects the story by showing the reader how much stress Nate had when his dad lost his job and how he had to win the money from the million-dollar to solve the problem.

  9. Recommendation The Million-Dollar Throw is worth reading because it entertained me, made me feel mixed emotions, and it taught me to never give up on anything that I do.
