An antimicrobial coating or surface is made of antimicrobial agents that restrict the growth of microorganisms on the regular surface. Generally, silver and copper are used due to their superior antimicrobial mechanisms. Well documented tales of silver as an antimicrobial are present, but the mechanisms of copper are still under scrutiny. However, nanotechnology has made it possible to use these antimicrobial qualities to the maximum. There are several areas where there is a need for antimicrobial surfaces.
