Agenda • Welcome and Introductions • WECC Activities • Task Force Update • Electric Topology Implementation • Test results • Promod enhancements • version 11 and future • Reserve granularity
Preparation of 4/29 Test Case • Used 2010 Backcast (3/8/13 version) • Defined 24 pools based on Balancing Authorities and 3 consolidations • Input entitlement shares of joint plants • Input hurdle rates between pools • Set pool reserves to 4% of daily peak • Note that some of the data has changed since 4/29 and will be implemented later
Progress and complications • Run completed • Took 22 hours (vs. 13 hours with 8 pool topology) • New pools and joint plants work in Promod, but not in post-processing tool • Accounting for joint plants needs to be done carefully (generated where, delivered where) • Data inputs kept changing – had to just run with preliminary inputs
8 Pools to 24 Pools SMUD + TIDC >> BPA + MidC + SCL/TPWR NWMT + WAUW >>
Separate Deck • Results ….
Promod Enhancements • Version 11.0 (released January 2013) • Multiple 8760 hourly shapes • Multiple Load and Rating patterns (monthly granularity – bus loads, branch ratings, etc.) • Ramp Rate Penalty Cost • Hydro Scheduled based on Load net Wind (and other selectable transactions) • Runtime improvement; User interface response
Future Enhancements Needed • CO2 Import Penalty for CA AB-32 • Additional improvement to DC transmission algorithm • Enhancement to simplify modeling of Demand Response • Change to limit the contribution of hydro units to reserves • Ability to model multi-layer reserve requirements (BA plus reserve sharing)
Reserve Granularity • For 2022 dataset reserves were: • 4% of daily peak + hourly flexibility reserve
