  3. Levels of Somatic Motor Control 1 • Somatic motor control • (involves series of levels) • Simple spinal and cranial reflexes at the base • Complex voluntary motor patterns at the top

  4. 2 Motor association areas Planning stage A B B Conscious decision is Made for specific movements in Frontal lobes Cerebral nuclei Cerebellum • Information is relayed from frontal lobes to motor association areas • These areas relay the information to cerebral nuclei and cerebellum

  5. 3 1 Primary Motor cortex Movement 2 Motor association areas Cerebellum 2 Cerebral Nuclei 3 Lower Motor neurons Other extrapyramidal nuclei • As the movement begins MAA send instructions to PMA • Feedback from CN and Cerebellum modifies those commands • Extrapyramidal motor output directs involuntary adjustment in position and muscle tone Motor activity
