Chateau Roubine | Provence, France Love At First Sight It was in 1994 when Valérie Rousselle first fell in love with Chateau Roubine, which reminded her of the childhood she spent in the heart of Provence. “I was called by this area” she remembered fondly. For 20 plus years, she has devoted herself to the management of the vineyard for which she brought forward cutting edge technology. Her one goal was to always aim for excellence while respecting local traditions. Valérie’s Story Valérie Rousselle was born in Saint-Tropez in 1963 and began a successful career in the Barriere Group at Deauville after graduating Lausanne Hotel School until she met and fell in love with Chateau Roubine in 1994. To improve her professional wine knowledge, she attended the University of Suze-la-Rousse Wine where she obtained her Certificate of Oenology and Viticulture in 2008. President of “Crus Classés” from 2005 to 2008, Vice-President of Wine and Business Club of Marseille, she is also behind the creation of Les Eléonores de Provence (association of women business owners who defend the art of living in Provence) which she is the president and embodies the revolutionary form of femininity in the 21st century. The Utmost Professional Valérie Rousselle surrounds herself with those holding the greatest skills: Jean-Louis Francone, Chief Grower: “My work on the vineyard is to ensure the continued existence of the vine’s quality at all stages and to express the typical characteristics of the terroir.” Pierre Gerin, Winemaker: “My primary role is to match traditional winemaking techniques with the latest advances in oenology to reveal great wines with character and boldness, aligned with past tradition.” Olivier Nasles, Oenologist : Specialist, he operates throughout the wine making process, from the production of grapes to bottling with an enlightened eye. A total of 50 people are employed in Château Roubine, in cellars, vineyards and offices. Valérie’s son Adrien Riboud works alongside his mother in the operations side of the winery. Chateau Roubine | Provence, France A Story Always Linked to Provence In historical times, the Roman road also known as “Julienne” ran through the current vineyard, giving it a strategic position. Known since the beginning of the 14th century, Château Roubine was owned by the Knights Templar before being sold in 1307 to the Order of St. Jean de Jerusalem. In the 15th century Château Roubine became the privilege and pride of various famous Provencal families. In 1789, the revolution caused fragmentation of the property. In the 1800s, Allaman domain belongs to the family who in 1855 gave it to Anne Leclerc de JuigneLassigny. Through inheritance in 1923, Château Roubine back to Henri de Rohan Chabot who put it in the Ott family’s hands. In 1955 Château Roubine is recognized by decree as "Cru Classé" of Côtes de Provence. The Knights Templar coat of arms traces the history of the area: the dragon, emblem of Draguignan, and the Lion representing Lorgues: both placed under the protection of the Provence Sun. A Terroir’s Story Bordered by a forest of pine and oak trees, located in one piece at the heart of the Var between Verdon and the Mediterranean, the vineyard of Château Roubine is planted on exceptional soil. Thanks to the great diversity of its 13 soil types in its natural drainage ("Roubine" means “stream" in Provencal), its ideal orientation facing East/West and its argilo-calcareous marls, it offers ideal conditions for the production of high quality wines. Today the 321 acre estate – with 100 of those acres planted vineyards and excels through optimal association between advanced technology and scrupulous application of “Reasoned Agriculture Rules” (sustainable vineyard management). This certification is the successful realization by Château Roubine of a long-term work and illustrates the constant priority of being one with nature.
