  1. Munchausen Syndrome By Proxy By: Riley Heroux

  2. MSBP • Is a metal illness that causes a person to falsely report or cause symptoms in another person that is under their care. • More than often the caregiver is a mother and the victim is her child. • MSBP is considered by law to be a form of child abuse.

  3. MSBP Symptoms/ Actions • The child is often brought to the doctor for a recurring or new illness. • The child is fine when they aren’t with the parent, but becomes sick when they are together. • The caregiver is not shocked when the test results show the child is severely ill. • The caregiver tries to form a close relationship with the medical professionals. • The caregiver falsely claims their child has experienced a medical emergency like a seizure. • They might contaminate test results so they indicate that the child is ill. • They may also harm the child themselves to make it appear that the child has the symptoms of a disease.

  4. MSBP Causes • As of today medical professionals aren’t quite sure as to what causes care givers to have MSBP. They do know that some people enjoy the attention they get when their child is ill. Some people even get money through the community when they have a sick child. Another theory is that the abuser had a harsh childhood and may be making up for the attention they lacked at a young age.

  5. What life is like… • For people with MSBP life is different. Their days are filled with bringing their child to the doctors frequently. They usually insist on having as many tests as possible done on the kid. In some cases the abuser may hurt the child so they can have an excuse to bring it to the doctors office.

  6. Treatments • The only known treatments for MSBP is extensive psychotherapy. Doctors hope that with more research, another treatment may be discovered.
