Department Profile • The program offers graduate study leading to M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in: • Industrial, Mechanical or Nuclear Engineering with a specialization in occupational safety and health engineering (OSHE) for both full-time or part-time students. (The majority of the students are enrolled in Industrial Engineering.) • In addition, the program offers safety and health courses to the engineering student not concentrating in occupational safety and health but wanting to gain some awareness and insight about this important field.
Department Profile • The OSHE program encompasses a wide range of University of Cincinnati (UC) courses and faculty • The majority of courses are taught by faculty from the colleges of Engineering and Medicine through the departments of Mechanical, Industrial and Nuclear Engineering (MINE) and Environmental Health (EH).
Department Profile • The primary objective of the OSHE training and research program is to provide graduate engineers with specialized courses and experiences that will enable them to become practicing safety and health professionals or researchers in the field. • Additionally, the program provides exposure to and training in occupational safety and health for engineers in other engineering disciplines, such as Construction Engineering and Biomedical Engineering, who should be aware of and include safety considerations in their work conduct.
Department Profile • Approx 15 M.S. and 6 Ph.D. • On average the number of students who graduate: • 1.5 Ph.D. per year • 15 M.S. per year • 7-8 are NIOSH trainees • In 2004 - 3 M.S. students and 1 Ph.D. • Anticipate 3-5 M.S. and 1 Ph.D.

Research • The Occupational Safety and Health Engineering (OSHE) Research Center is a partnership between the University of Cincinnati (UC), Ohio University, the University of Louisville, and TechSolve®, an Ohio Edison Company. • The Center will assist larger organizations and provide programs that help small and medium-sized businesses (under 500 employees) that typically lack in resources, especially the expertise in the areas of new techniques and technologies for worker safety and health. • The occupational safety and health research focus will be performed with manufacturing & distribution, health care, and construction businesses in the southern region of Ohio, and will be expanded over time to other regions in Ohio and the U.S.
