  3. Summer Reading Clubs • Reading Adventure Nights • Reading Celebration • Twilight Party • Game Nights • Bulldogs Read Reading Programs that Work

  4. This summer will be the fourth year • Program has grown over 15% each year Summer Reading Club

  5. Runs for 8 weeks • The same program 3 times a week • Survey the parents as to when is the best time • Set up dates • Registration—send information home with students and do it onsite at each location • Funded through Missouri State Library Summer Reading Clubs

  6. Use the Manual from the State • Attend the workshops from the State Library for ideas • Parents participate with children Summer Reading Club

  7. Schedule • Check and mark reading charts • Stories • Craft • Snack • Door Prizes • Usually give out 5 door prizes but everyone will get a small item—Everyone’s a winner in the library! Summer Reading Clubs

  8. Held monthly—well almost monthly at the three locations • Each month has a theme • Read several books • Do a craft • Snack • Door prizes—kids and parents • Kids get a free book Reading Adventure Nights

  9. Flyers • General one for all three areas • One for each area • Posted in all three locations • Send one home at beginning of the month with each student • Newspaper Articles Articles throughout the month along with pictures from each Adventure Night • Letters to churches Public Relations

  10. Pictures • Reminders—day of Reading Night • Stickers • Magnets—dates of all Reading Nights along with Reading Celebration Public Relations

  11. Go Bananas for Books • Click Clack Read • Catch the Reading Bug • Reading is Spooktacular • Wild about books • Reading is a Treat • Reading Wonderland • Reading is Dino-mite Themes

  12. Held in March and only at Stover • Runs for an hour and half • Games, Crafts, Characters and Food • Games • Ring Toss • Book Walk • Book Character Bean Bag Toss Reading Celebration

  13. Crafts • Tattoos • Sun Catchers • Lightening Bolts • Wooden bookmarks • Mini books Reading Celebration

  14. Food • Hot dogs, chips, capri sun or water • Each person gets a ticket at registration • Door Prizes • Offer all types of prizes such as MP3 players, stereos, videos, books, stuffed animals, book fair gift certificates, etc. Reading Celebrations

  15. Characters • Five characters • Use high school students • Visited the kids during lunch • Had two students for each character Reading Celebration
