  4. Human Moral Quest • Humans are not “natural.” • Humans bear the mark of divine creation. • We love; we go beyond ourselves. • Created beings • Other humans • Ourselves • All of these are good, but none provides happiness.

  5. Love of God is the Highest Good • We desire happiness • Cannot be happy if • We do not have what we love • We suffer torture • What we love is hurtful • We are cheated • We do not love what we have, although it is good • We are diseased • Happy life is when we love and possess our chief good

  6. What is our Chief Good? • Something which is superior to us • The soul brings good to our body • What brings good to our soul? What perfects it? • Which can be possessed by us • Which cannot be lost against our will • God is our chief good. Happiness is to love God.
