  4. 5 Components of Health • Physical – your physical characteristics and the way your body functions • Body size and shape • Susceptibility to disease • Nutrition • Fitness • Recuperative ability

  5. 5 Components of Health • Social – interacting with others to build satisfying relationships • Interaction with others • Treat with respect • Adapt to social situations • Active role in community • Friends to talk to and discuss problems with

TEEN DEATHS COMPARED TO ADULTS Similar Different • Many of the causes of death for both groups could be reduced as a result of better lifestyle choices. • Teen deaths are more sudden as a result of poor decisions (risk taking, peer pressure, lack of experience, negative response in handling emotions, etc.) • Adult deaths result from a long period of poor lifestyle choices (poor eating habits, smoking, alcohol abuse, lack of exercise, etc.)

  19. Crisis vs. Preventive Health Care • Crisis health care - wait until you are sick, go to the doctor and hope the doctor or medicine can make you better • Preventive – a person practices healthy habits to avoid getting ill in the first place Which is better?

  20. Chronological – age as measured in years from date of birth. Physiological – age as estimated from the body’s health, appearance, and probable life expectancy.
