  2. All writing has a beginning, a middle, and an ending. • This is true for letters as well as expository writing and stories. • Read passage. • In this passage, Jack decides e-mail is a good way to communicate, but the author does not explain how to write a good e-mail.

  3. The graphic organizer shows the parts of an e-mail that Jack might send to Jill.

  4. Read the e-mail. • People often read e-mails very quickly, so it is important for an e-mail to be very clearly organized. • The address and subject are typed into designated places on the electronic e-mail form.

  5. Complete the graphic organizer. Dear Mrs. Taw: I saw your ad on the Internet. It said that you were offering a big discount to schools that buy computers from your store. Our school library needs new computers. Could you tell me what kinds? how much for more than one? I would appreciate information you can send me. Sincerely, Fernando Ortiz

  6. Writing PromptMany people enjoy performing in plays. Think about a play you would like our class to perform. Now, write an e-mail to your teacher that explains why you want to perform that play. Think about your audience and purpose for writing. Include the address, subject, greeting, main message, polite conclusion, formal closing, and a name. Use a graphic organizer to plan your e-mail.
