Kelly made a backup copy of his company’s database on a CD and took it home and installed it on his home computer. • Do you think it was illegal, unethical, or neither for Kelly to take the database home and query the data? It was illegal and unethical for Kelly to take the database home as it contained confidential information about the company.

No, the company fired Kelly and threatened him that if he did not retune all the data he would be in court for the next 5 years. • What do you think Kelly should have done upon discovering the odd pattern in Jason’s order? Kelly had 2 options, either he could have ignored it completely or he could have told his boss that while he was doing the backup he found something odd and so thought of reporting it.

The company should have asked Kelly to return all the data back also could have given him warning. • Is it possible that someone other than Jason is involved? What should Kelly have done in light of that possibility? Maybe there was someone else involved.

Databases are self-describing because it contains the data within the whole company database. Organizations should establish good policies on handling electronic documents.
