Summary • Dante and Vigil come across the third pit of the 8th circle which consists of those who committed simony. • Simony-these sinners used their position in the church for personal monetary gain. • The sinners are punished by having their heads shoved in the rocks while their feet are set on fire and are burning. • Dante then calls out Pope Nicholas III and Virgil carries Dante away to continue on to the next circle.
