PRIVATE CIRCUITS AND PPC WORKING GROUP21 JANUARY 2005 John Morden Head of Data Connectivity Products
Disclaimer • This briefing outlines the current plans for providing the Partial Private Circuit portfolio of products under 21CN. It should be noted that, although these are the current intentions at this time, detailed implementation depends upon the capabilities of the suppliers and the final 21CN network design. If any significant departure from the solution described here are required, this will be shared with industry as soon as possible.
Low–bandwidth PPCs (up to 1M) • Following applies to PPC’s currently provided on DPCN - may not apply to products on other platforms, eg 1Mbit/s • Some customers have tight latency and synchronisation requirements • Expect volumes to decline to the point where we can withdraw platform by 2011 • Review in 2008 • Consequently no plans to change products
High Bandwidth PPCs (34M and above) • Continue to be provided as native SDH • For these products current lowest speed is 34Mbit/s • No change to Product
2M PPCs • Continue to be provided as SDH on 21CN • No change out of existing circuits • Able to use any spare capacity on equipment • As 21CN rolls out non-SDH PPC equipment will be withdrawn from sale. • Includes 1M copper delivered product.
Points of Handover • As 21CN progresses, Tier 1 nodes will close, although buildings remain. • Agreements with Altnets will follow principles being established in the Legacy Interconnect WG
Next steps • Continue to take on board industry concerns and issues • Details of any changes needed to PPC contract agreed through PPC Industry Forum. • New products, i.e. IP mixing will follow new product development process.
WES • No changes planned as a result of 21CN • This is a new product still in development and issues should be dealt with through Industry WES forum.
