  2. problem statement cellphones with basic multimedia capability (camera and speaker) are pervasive but there isn’t an application or service available that integrates multimedia capabilities to capture interesting or important occurrences and their location

  3. proposed solution Capture is a simple tool that allows you to take a photo, or voice recording to capture something noteworthy. Capture auto-tags it with location information. These captures can be retrieved at will, or pop-up automatically when one is the vicinity of a previous capture. Further, one has basic ability to share captures via MMS. Capture can serve as a mobile memory aid, an organizer for cellphone photos or voice recordings, an auto-fill MMS template …

  8. persona Erica Brewer Erica stays with her husband Frank, who is also retired. She has two grown sons who stay in the same city, and 3 grandchildren aged 5, 8 and 12. Nearly everyday, she meets up with her buddies for coffee. She is part of a local charity organization that raises funding for research of juvenile diabetes. On an average, she spends 10 hours a week for the cause. She tries to get the full family together at her place about once a month. Once in a while, she picks up her grandkids from school and they stay the night with her and Frank. She looks forward to those days and even plans in advance for them. • Age: 71 • Retired Pharmacist Goals life experience end • Keep the family united • Be a good grandmother • Be independent and occupied • Feel useful to the community • Live on a limited budget inconspicuously • Not to feel like an old person • Enjoy shopping • Find the best price • Remember what I’m looking for • Remember recipes • Make a good meal • Look for inspiration Photo Credits: Lisa Ruokis

  11. scenario and prototyping Erica gets drawn to Capture…

  12. beyond Erica… capture interesting places while travelling, and share with friends capture the place where you parked your car take a series of captures (landmarks) to trace path multimedia wallet photo

  13. grounded in persona for low-end cell phones doesn’t use data plan; doesn’t need to connect to carrier signal design favored photo and voice annotation over text tagging limited share capability (keeping away from social networking)

  14. competitor analysis note-taking applications are text tagging and hierarchical organization intensive, are complex, and are for high end phones. e.g. Evernote, reQall basic voice recording or camera apps on phones don’t integrate multimedia capabilities, and are hardly employed for note-taking Unique Selling Point: auto-tagging of geographical information, and location based retrieval

  15. the short story Capture is primarily a mobile memory aid. We designed it to meet the needs of Erica Brewer, a fictional 71-year-old persona whose calendar is filled with volunteering activities, coffee with friends, and indulging her grandkids. Erica is not a gadget freak. Unlike many other mobile applications, Capture specifically supports older phones with low-cost service plans. Capture also favors image and voice interaction over typing on a tiny telephone keypad.
