Attention Getting • Wants someone to notice him/her. • Attention may be positive or negative. • Acting as class clown • Excessive talking • Running in the class • Forgetting materials • Tugging on the teacher
Power Seeking • Student may show signs of hostility, aggression, disobedience, or stubbornness. • “Come make me” • “Don’t touch me” • “Send me to the office I don’t care.”
Revenge Seeking • Student is rude, hurtful, destructive • Name calling • Destroy another’s belongings • Stealing from teacher or peers • Threatening the teacher or other peers
Displaying Inadequacy • Students tend to withdraw • Feel there is no hope • No one cares • No one understands • Sleeps in class • Fails to do homework • Does not participate in class discussions. • Quit tasks easily • Misses school
If the student: Stops behavior and then repeats it Refuses to stop or increases misbehaviors Becomes violent or hostile Refuses to cooperate, participate, or interact. The goal is: Attention Power Seeking Revenge Seeking Inadequacy
