  1. AP LITERATURE AND COMPOSITION MR. HOUGHTELING OCTOBER 3, 2012 “It’s a Work together Wednesday!”

  2. AGENDA • Passage Goldmine. • Oral Reading.

  3. Passage Goldmine • We will IDENTIFY certain passages of text that we believe to be important to the novel or reflective of a larger idea in relationship to the novel. • These passages may illustrate certain aspects of CHARACTERIZATION, THEME, IMAGERY or other important idea.

  4. Passage Goldmine—What is required? • In your chapter, you must identify at least two sections of text that you deem memorable or important. Then you must analyze those sections individually, discussing (using analytical paraphrase) what makes those passages important are significant to the reader. • You should always try to link your passage to the novel as a whole or some other big idea.

  5. Practice Now! Get into pairs or triads. Work through Chapter 3, trying to identify quotations and text unto which you can perform analytical paraphrase. Find and work through at least two different quotations. Ask questions, use the notes from yesterday, as a guide, TRY!

  6. Important text to examine: Major themes, quotes, and questions coming up… - page 53 – the corporal’s boots - page 61 – crying - page 67 – “I” - page 73 – “mustard gas and roses” - page 75 – Hitler, Adam and Eve
