  2. Learning Objective • Students will create their own firefly that contains the right colors and number of parts needed to show that they fully understand the task at hand.

  3. Vocabulary • Head lights • Flash light • Firefly/Fireflies • Owl • Lantern • Candle • Light bulb • Fireworks

  4. Assessment • Students will have to identify where to put the proper parts in place on the firefly • Making colors agree as well • They will also have to write a sentence describing some of the things the firefly goes through in the story, as well as the way he looks

  5. Materials/Resources • Title: The Very Lonely Firefly • Author: Eric Carle • Publishing Date: July 19, 1999

  6. Sponge Activity • Plan “B” • Sequence game • Arrange story in the right order in which they occurred. • Right number sequence will be written on the back of an index card .

  8. Initiation • Jar of fireflies • They can observe how they maneuver and function • Introduce actual activity

  9. Instructional Strategies • Split into small groups • show the model of the completed firefly • assist the kids in creating the appropriate firefly • go over the story once again • create their own sentence about the firefly

  10. Closure • Go over some fireflies • Why does that go there ? • What happens when the firefly does ___ ? • Is the _____ the right color ?
