  12. Hidden extras and how to beat them! Web check in: £5 per person • How to beat it: There’s no way to beat it with Ryanair, but generally with budget airlines always opt for online check in. Baggage: £15 each way per person • How to beat it: Pack light, wear heavy clothes, only take hand luggage if you can, weigh your bag before you go, and make sure you balance your weight between anyone you’re travelling with.

  13. Travel Insurance: £10.03 • Sneakily Ryanair asks you what your country of residence is and if you fill it in it automatically whacks on over-priced insurance, make sure the box is unticked. Debit/credit card charge: £10 • A particularly outrageous trick employed my budget airlines, pay by credit or debit card (as most people would) and you’ll be face an extra £10 charge per booking. • Mastercard Prepaid card is the only way to avoid its fees.

  27. BACKGROUND INFO (MM to read): • In July 2009 Ryanair was forced by the Office of Fair Trading to be more transparent about charges. It made three main changes its site: • It now backs-up its 'Price Guarantee' promise with more thorough terms and conditions. Under the promise, Ryanair sometimes pays holidaymakers double the difference between its fare and a cheaper equivalent. • It now displays a more prominent link on its website explaining its extra charges. • It gives greater prominence to information about promotional offer terms and conditions, such as when advertised prices are not available.
