  6. Language Arts Core Novels & More: • The Hunger Games • The Outsiders • The Wednesday Wars Literature stories from our Holt Anthology • All reading activities are designed to develop and reinforce reading comprehension skills and enhance writing skills.

  7. Writing • 6 Traits of Effective Writing: Ideas, Organization, Voice, Word Choice, Sentence Fluency, and Conventions. • Vocabulary development, which includes spelling, proofreading, writing, and word development • Writing styles: response to literature, persuasive, narratives, informative writing, poetry, letters, and essays

  8. Social Studies: World History • World Geography and Atlas work • Fall of Rome • Arabia • Mesoamerica & South America • Feudal Japan & China • The Middle Ages • Renaissance • Enlightenment & Exploration • Reformation & Scientific Revolution

  9. How will we accomplish this? • Incorporate reading and writing standards into all subjects via projects, essays, and related novels • Assess understanding via projects, writing, quizzes, and observation • Classroom activities and assignments

  10. “Celebrating Incremental Improvements” Of course we want all our students to achieve at the highest level, but we realize this is often a process. We celebrate each bit of progress a student makes.

  11. Student Success • Organization (minder binder, absences, website, follow-up.) • Willingness to ask questions/clarify • Prepare for all quizzes, tests, presentations. Homework • Either preview or review • Studying notes for a quiz or test • A medium to long term project that has been started in class • An essay that has been worked on in class Assessments • Study guides are not given for quizzes. • A study guide will be given at the beginning of a unit if there is a test. • Quizzes are typically under 20 questions. • Tests are over 20 questions.
