  4. Decline of Axum • Cause of decline: • Lost trading power to Arabs • Reduced kingdom’s wealth • Leaders led people south into highlands • African country that replaces Axum • Ethiopia

  5. King Ezana • Axum’s most powerful ruler • Ezana changes course ancient Africa’s history • Converts to Christianity • As a result people of Axum also convert to Christianity • Religion still dominant religion today (2011) even when countries around them practice Islam
