  3. Objective After practicing outlining with information that I am familiar with, I will be able to use a template to outline new information from Chapter 2, section 1 of Civics Today.

  4. Sample Outline Types of Laws I. Criminal Law A. Misdemeanors 1. Vandalism 2. Stealing inexpensive items 3. Writing bad checks for small amounts B. Felonies 1. Murder 2. Kidnapping 3. Robbery II. Civil Law III. Public Law A. Constitutional Law B. Statutory Law C. Administrative Law IV. International Law As the information gets more and more specific, it is indented one space further over and given a new numbering/lettering system.

Practice With New Information • Template – Back of P10 • Chapter 2, Section 1 (p.28) • Read through the headings to start your outline from the most general information and move to more specific information. • You should fill out the first two levels today. • If you finish early,check in with me and ask to try the challenge. 

  9. Challenge Create an outline from scratch (no template) called “The World.” Include: • the continents • three countries from each • five U.S. States.

  10. Closure • Even though you haven’t read chapter 2, what can you tell me about “Our English Heritage” based on the outline? • What are the important concepts that we (Americans) incorporated from England? • Now that you have tried using an outline, what are some specific times when you think you might use one?

  11. Reminders • Homework is due tomorrow • Unit awards will be Thursday, January 16th • Your Political Science vocab quiz (P1 words) will be Friday, January 17th • Homework Help is after school on Tuesday, January 21st (3:05-5:05) • Book Club starts Tuesday, January 21st at lunch (Bring Animal Farm with you!) • A binder check is coming…stay organized!
