  2. MLK was put into jail for parading without a permit.

  3. While in jail, MLK wrote a letter to 8 fellow clergymen.

  4. The clergymen criticized MLK’s work and ideas.

  5. MLK believed injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.

  6. MLK used a nonviolent campaign to promote peace.

  7. The campaign included 4 steps.

  8. 1. Collect facts to determine if injustice exists.

  9. 2. Negotiation

  10. 3. Self-Purification

  11. 4. Direct Action

  12. Direct action includes: sit-ins, marches, prayer pilgrimages to City Hall, etc.

  13. Direct action is a way to open the door for negotiation.

  14. Oppressed people cannot remain oppressed forever. Yearning for freedom eventually manifests itself.
