  4. If we put organic waste in the rubbish it will go to the landfill.

  5. When organic waste like food or plants starts to break down in the landfill a polluted liquid is produced called LEACHATE.

  6. Smelly methane. • Organic waste in a landfill also produces methane gas. Methane is one of the two biggest offenders of global climate change.

  7. 2 main benefits of composting • Make nutrient rich soil for the garden • Reduce rubbish to landfill

  8. A compost needs: To be open to the soil underneath Have plenty of air flow Have good drainage

  10. To make great compost we need to follow the recipe! Browns + greens + air + water

  11. Carbons “browns” – dry stuff

  12. Nitrogens “greens” – juicy stuff

  13. In a compost DECOMPOSERS bacteria, fungi, insects and worms recycle the organic waste into new soil!
