  1. Easter Along with the essential sign of the empty tomb, the resurrection of Jesus is witnessed to by the women, who first encountered Christ and proclaimed him to the Twelve. While being an historical event, verifiable and attested by signs and testimonies, the resurrection . . . transcends and surpasses history as a mystery of faith. Christ manifests himself to the disciples, making them his witnesses to people. The empty tomb and the accounts of the disciples are signs of the resurrection and the relationship between Jesus and the Father.

  2. Easter Our key learning points for this unit are: Year R: looking at the joy of the Easter season by reflecting on the emotions of those discovering the empty tomb. Year 1: looking at the impact that the Resurrection had on the lives of the ordinary people who witnessed it. Year 2: looking in further detail at the account of the empty tomb.Thomas is introduced, to show that people responded in different ways to the Resurrection of Jesus. Year 3: focusing on the appearance of Jesus to his disciples. Symbolism of the Easter season, including the liturgical colour, is explored. Year 4: looking at the risen Jesus, shown through the Ascension and other stories. Year 5: examining the Church’s belief in eternal life, as shown in the Easter story. Explores the story of Lazarus. Year 6: examining the Easter story through the eyes of Thomas and the sources of doubt. Examines the belief in eternal life through the life of the Church today (funerals).
