Twostrands: • Regionalcompetitivenessandemployment . Activities in eachregion. Example: EFRO-Vlaanderen • Territorial cooperation • Interreg A: cross border cooperation. 52 programs in cross border areas.Example: Vlaanderen-Nederland • Interreg B: transnational cooperation . 13 programs in larger European areas. Example: North West Europe • Interreg Europe: interregional cooperation . 1 program in EU28 + N, CH

Interreg V A, Interreg V B • Based on the EU 2020-strategy smart, sustainable and inclusive growth:employment, research, energy, education, poverty • Adapted to regional needs and ambitions differences between all programs • Overlapping thematicobjectives: eg.for Vlaanderen-Nederland and North West-Europe:- Innovationand research- Low carbon economy- Resource efficiency

Interreg V B NWE • Objective: Promotion of sustainable territorial and regional development through cooperation in Northwest Europa. • Possiblebeneficiaries (= project partners) • (Inter)national, regionalandlocalgovernmentalorganisationsUniversitiesor research organisations • Non-profit organisations (civil society) • Intermediatebodies (chambers of commerce, developmentagencies, cluster organisations,…) • Companies (notforprofit in the project)

Interreg V B NWE • Innovation investment priorities: • Promote business investment in innovationand research • Develop links andsynergiesbetween companies, R&D centers andhighereducationinstitutes. • Examples of innovation actions tobesupported: • Buildnetworksbetweendevelopedandlessdevelopedregionstoimproveinnovationperformance (gap analysis, open innovation, mentoring, bridge gapsbydevelopingsupplychains, infrastructuresharing,…) • Improvecompetitiveness of companies (demonstrateand test technologies, products, services, service delivery models) (make use of comparable smart specialisations, buildtransnationalcriticalmass,…) • Deliversocietal benefits throughinnovation (develop, test andimplementinnovativesolutionsforsocialneedsandpopulations at risk,…) met name: Ontwikkeling van producten en diensten, overdracht van technologie, sociale innovatie en toepassingen voor overheidsdiensten, stimulering van de vraag, opzetten van netwerken, clusters en open innovatie door middel van slimme specialisatie; [...] ondersteuning van technologisch en toegepast onderzoek, proefopstellingen, maatregelen voor snelle productvalidatie, geavanceerde productiecapaciteit en eerste productie in sleuteltechnologieën en verspreiding van universeel inzetbare technologieën;

Interreg V B NWE • Financial details • Budget: 397 millioneuros, to fund some 100 projects;innovation: 113 million • European cofinaning: up to 60 % • Eligliblecosts: staff, operationalcosts, investments, audit, administration • Reporting anddisbursments: half-yearlyreportsanddeclarations of costs
